Rick Patzman : Co-Founder

Rick graduated from Brown University in 1992 and went into the technology industry working in or consulting to the IT departments of companies such as Fidelity Investments, Putnam Investments and numerous start-up technology companies.  In those roles, Rick managed large projects and teams of up to 17 computer scientists and programmers.

Rick then went to Columbia Business School in 1998, and graduated with honors. After receiving his MBA he worked for 10 years in Technology Research for Prudential Securities in New York, Dresdner Bank in London, and a small quantitative investment firm in Boston. He co-founded The Curator’s Eye in 2011 to bring more advanced online marketing technology use to the art market. CEMS currently places over 100 million targeted online advertisements each year. The company has marketed thousands of artworks totalling $300-$400 million in value. It has provided lead generation and lead nurturing services to dealers selling the highest caliber works of art.

Sarah Valelly: Co-Founder

Originally from the Financial sector, Ms. Valelly was President of Compagnie Financiere Tradition, Buenos Aires, where she ran a Brady Bond trading desk, and later became Director of Sales and Marketing at Institutional Investor’s Research Products Group in Manhattan.

After her 15-year career in Banking and Financial Services Consulting, Ms. Valelly worked as a consultant to Bonhams and Butterfields for Boston and the New England region. Ms. Valelly attended the Christie’s program in Contemporary Art in London; attended Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Advanced Studies in the History of Spanish Art; and attended the National Gallery of Arts in Bologna focusing on the history of its collection. Ms. Valelly was raised in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. She earned her BA from Macalester College, and is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian.  

Phil Lehmann: Co-Founder

Mr. Lehmann, an architectural photographer by training, has worked as a professional photographer for various clients in the US and throughout Europe. He studied computer science in southern Germany, and has worked in the IT business for many years. Mr. Lehmann graduated with honors from New England School of Photography.

Ryan Drumm: Co-Founder

Ryan, a New Jersey native, graduated from New York University with degrees in History and Chemistry. After deciding against pursuing a career in medicine he continued his education at Seton Hall University, studying art collections management.  During this time, he worked at the Red Mill Museum in New Jersey gaining first hand experience in the proper care and preservation of museum collections.

He was in charge of a year-long project to inventory and properly re-house a significant local private collection. In addition to his other responsibilities at the museum, Ryan assisted in the curation of seasonal exhibits. Upon graduation, Ryan moved to Boston, MA where he joined The Curator’s Eye team in November 2013.

Judy Ma: Auction Manager

Judy graduated twice from University of California, Berkeley, first with a B.A. in Cognitive Science emphasizing Computational Modeling, and then with a Master’s in Information Management and Systems. She began her career working for large companies like DIRECTV, and eventually managed multi-million dollar programs. She is a certified Project Management Professional (license #1603351).

In 2014, with over ten years of professional experience, Judy moved to London to attend the Christie’s Education program in Art, Style, and Design (Renaissance to Modern). During this time, she also undertook many different internship opportunities with Christie’s, and gained valuable insight into the operations of one of the world’s leading auction houses. She graduated with her Master’s degree in History of Art from University of Glasgow. Shortly after moving back to sunny California, Judy started working with The Curator’s Eye in March 2016.

Thomas B. Stephens (Technology Strategy)

Mr. Stephens has spent ten years as an engineer, entrepreneur, and strategic advisor in the internet and software industries. He is currently a Principal at Bulger Capital, where he advises technology companies on mergers and acquisitions. Early in his career, he was previously a consultant at McKinsey & Company where he advised some of the world’s leading firms on strategy formulation and implementation.

Mr. Stephens was also the founder and president of the enterprise software company Archer Technology, and the head of platform development at the health care IT firm Outcome Sciences, Inc. Tom earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Philosophy from Dartmouth College, and an Masters of Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Howard M. Rogatnick (Intellectual Property)

Mr. Rogatnick is counsel for Bryan Cave, LLP in New York. He has experience in the areas of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and copyright infringement. In addition, Mr. Rogatnick has litigated Internet issues involving domain names and web site content. He also advises computer manufacturers and others on the protection of their intellectual property rights. Mr. Rogatnick graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yale University and received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard University in 1987.
